Pune: The Pune crime branch has arrested two brothers in connection with an attempted dacoity to steal sandalwood and an attack on a police constable in a lane near Abhinav school, off Law College Road, on Oct 22, 2024.The accused, Shahrukh Pathan (28) and Farukh Pathan (26), both residents of Janjala in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, were arrested based on a tip-off received by crime branch inspector Wahid Pathan.According to police, the duo and four accomplices allegedly attacked police constable Mahesh Tambe after he became suspicious of their movements on Oct 22, 2024. The accused allegedly tried to snatch Tambe’s pistol and assaulted him with a hacksaw blade. Tambe then fired two rounds, injuring the two brothers. They later sought treatment at a private clinic.Police subsequently arrested one of the six suspects, while the others remained at large. The two brothers have robbery cases registered against them.“Our investigation is on,” a crime branch officer said.
