HC extends stay on demolition of Abhishek’s Amtala office

Kolkata: Calcutta HC on Thursday extended the interim stay granted on demolition of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s Amtala office till Sept 18.The matter was taken up for hearing by Justice Suvra Ghosh. Senior advocate Kishore Datta submitted that while illegal construction has been alleged on plots 509 and 512, demolition was carried out at 507 where Banerjee has his Amtala office. Prayer was also made for compensation.Advocate general Surajit Nath Mitra, appearing for the state, sought time to revert with instructions. The case will be next heard on Sept 8.In July, in an urgent hearing, Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury ordered status quo on the demolition of Banerjee’s Diamond Harbour constituency office till end of July or until further orders. The case was then placed before the regular bench.
