Valpoi to get Rs 9 cr facelift through Central funding

Panaji: The directorate of urban development will spend Rs 9.3 crore to rejuvenate a 1,200m stretch at Nanuz, Valpoi, under Centre’s scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2023-24.The pilot project, headed by urban development minister Vishwajit Rane, aims to promote a healthy sports culture while creating a safer and more engaging route to the stadium.“The pilot stretch of 1,200m is proposed around promoting a healthy sports culture in and around Valpoi. The current road is reimagined as a 13m right of way. The redesign is proposed as a complete street, with planned infrastructure such as stormwater drains, water supply for landscaping, and electrical works. The carriageway is proposed to be resurfaced in asphalt,” an official said.The redevelopment will include footpaths on both sides, landscaped areas with trees and shrubs, play and sports modules, community seating, swings, street furniture, signage, and improved lighting. The project will also improve access to properties along the stretch.Existing compound walls, shop plinths and a cross-drain will be dismantled and replaced with a new compound wall, entry gates and a covered concrete stormwater drain.The work will include site preparation, landscaping, and horticulture. The contractor must maintain the completed works for 36 months after completion, with a 12-month defect liability period.
