NEW DELHI: For the families of workers caught in Wednesday’s CNG station blast in Delhi, the tragedy did not end with the explosion, with relatives alleging that injured workers struggled to get timely medical help. One family said a critically injured worker remained at the site for nearly half an hour, bleeding heavily, before he was taken to hospital.Twenty-five-year-old Manish was found bleeding at the fuel pump by his family members after the blast. His uncle Vijay Prasad said the worker had suffered severe blood loss while waiting for help.“He lay there for half an hour. He had lost so much blood. How could anyone survive?” his uncle Vijay Prasad said.Manish had been employed at the station for around three years and had reported for his shift at about 2 pm. The blast took place later in the afternoon while CNG was being refilled in a truck.Prasad said the family learnt about the incident through a phone call informing them that Manish was seriously injured.“I got a call saying that a cylinder had exploded and Manish was serious. I called my brother, and he, my nephew and several other people came here,” he said.“There was no one to take him. All gas station staff ran away,” Prasad added.Manish was eventually taken to Safdarjung Hospital, but by then he had suffered significant blood loss, his uncle said.Manish was among three workers killed in the blast, according to police. The other two deceased were identified as Brahmjeet, 34, and Sunny, 30, both residents of Nizampur and employees at the station.Aditya, a relative of Brahmjeet and injured worker Akshay, said the two brothers had been employed at the CNG station for about two years. Brahmjeet died at the spot.“Akshay has severe injuries on his back and internal and blunt trauma. He is in critical condition. Brahmjeet passed away on the spot,” Aditya said. Both brothers were married and had two children each, he said.Their family, which is from Nizampur, rushed to the site after learning about the blast.“When we arrived, there was no police or ambulance. We had to carry them to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Bahadurgarh ourselves,” he alleged.Police, however, said senior officers reached the site soon after the explosion. The DCP, Outer District, the ACP and the SHO of Mundka Police Station were among those present, police said. The Delhi Fire Service said it received the emergency call at 3.37 pm and dispatched six fire tenders to the spot.Police said six people who were near the truck when the explosion occurred were taken to hospital.Three of them, Surjeet, Sanjay and Vipin were admitted to CD Global Hospital in Mundka. The exact cause of the explosion was not immediately known, police said.(With PTI inputs)
