THANE: Three passengers were injured over a seat dispute inside the luggage compartment of a local train in Thane district, police said on Thursday. The incident took place late Wednesday night at around 12.30 am on the Parel-Ambernath local while it was travelling between Dombivli and Thakurli stations, according to the Central Railway. The clash involved three passengers, two of whom sustained serious injuries.Senior Inspector Archana Dusane of the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) said a preliminary investigation found that the altercation began over sharing a seat and quickly escalated into a physical fight. The injured were identified as Raju Waghe (19), Sahil Khandare (19) and Pritesh Kanojia (31).After receiving information about the incident, personnel from the GRP and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reached Kalyan railway station and attended to the injured passengers.A preliminary inquiry by the GRP found that the head injuries suffered by two passengers were caused by a metal ‘kada’ (bangle) worn by one of them during the scuffle, and not by any sharp weapon.“The injury was caused when the metal bangle worn on one person’s wrist struck the other person’s head during the scuffle,” the Central Railway’s statement said. All three injured passengers were given first aid before being shifted to Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan. One of them, who suffered a serious head injury, was later referred to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital) in Mumbai for further treatment. In a separate incident, the Central Railway said a man was detained after a video circulating on social media showed him running with a wooden stick on a platform at Kurla railway station on Wednesday night. His actions triggered panic among passengers before security personnel intervened and apprehended him.During a preliminary inquiry, the man was identified as Sajid Abdul Karim Chaudhary (49), who appeared to be mentally unstable.“He is currently in the custody of the GRP, which is conducting further inquiry and taking necessary legal action,” the Central Railway said.
