Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday told party functionaries that the TVK govt would fall within the next 18 months and called upon party functionaries to work for the success of AIADMK in the upcoming local body polls.EPS, who resumed his district wise review meetings, urged district secretaries and senior leaders from Erode and Thiruvallur to focus on the upcoming local body polls to bounce back from recent electoral setbacks.EPS told the partymen that the local body elections are `crucial’ for AIADMK. He called on party workers to demonstrate AIADMK’s organizational strength and secure victories in their respective constituencies. According to functionaries who attended the meeting, EPS said TVK govt would fall soon and urged the cadre to remain confident about reclaiming power.The meeting was also attended by Anthiyur MLA Haribaskar, a prominent supporter of former minister S. P. Velumani.Erode was once considered one of the AIADMK’s strongest bastions. However, the exit of veteran leader K A Sengottaiyan to the TVK ahead of the Assembly polls severely dented the party’s prospects in this Kongu district. In another blow, S Jayakumar, AIADMK MLA from Perundurai segment, which falls in Erode, had resigned and joined TVK.To counter these setbacks, EPS directed leaders to drive youth enrollment and instructed district secretaries to prioritize the party’s IT wing. Furthermore, functionaries were tasked with leveraging social media platforms aggressively to counter both the TVK and DMK.
