NEW DELHI: The IMD has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of the states, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also likely in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu as the southwest monsoon regains strength after a brief lull.IMD alert: Heavy rain, thunderstorms in several statesAccording to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is set to witness a significant revival, beginning over northeast India before gradually spreading to eastern, central and northern parts of the country over the next few days.A cyclonic circulation over northeastern Rajasthan and the monsoon trough in its normal position are expected to keep rainfall activity active across large parts of Rajasthan for the next four to five days.The weather department has also issued a red alert for parts of central Gujarat, including Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, with heavy rainfall likely over several districts of south Gujarat.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected over many regions, with wind speeds of 30-40 kmph likely in some areas.Delhi-NCR weather tomorrowDelhi and adjoining areas are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms over the next two days, bringing relief from humid conditions. Moderate rain and gusty winds are likely, particularly across the Western Ghats districts through July 28, while other parts of the state may receive light to moderate showers. Interior districts could also record temperatures up to 3°C above normal until July 26 despite the rainfall.Monsoon updateThe IMD said the southwest monsoon is entering a more active phase after remaining relatively weak for an extended period.
