Vasco: A fresh landslide at the Mormugao harbour hillock on Monday sent large boulders rolling onto the road, partially blocking access and raising renewed safety concerns for commuters and local residents. No casualties were reported. The latest incident marks the second landslide in the area in recent days, intensifying fears among those who use the route regularly.Social activist Xencor Polgi alleged that authorities have failed to take preventive measures despite warnings of possible slope instability. He also criticised the cutting of long-standing trees on the hillock, claiming it has worsened environmental stability and increased risk to human life.“It is wrong on the part of authorities to have razed decades-old trees. This has caused immense environmental loss and put lives at risk,” Polgi said. The concern follows a fatal landslide on May 18 in the same area, when a labourer was killed after being trapped under boulders. Two others were injured, while another escaped unhurt.
