Three CA Intermediate students from Ahmedabad in Top 50 list

Ahmedabad/Surat/Vadodara: CA Intermediate exam results declared by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Wednesday have delivered a mixed picture for Gujarat. While pass percentages remained modest across major cities, students made a strong mark nationally, with 13 candidates from Ahmedabad and Surat featuring in the all-India Top 50 ranks.

Ahmedabad produced three national rank holders. Moksh Rathod secured all-India Rank (AIR) 5 with 508 marks out of 600, Stuti Goenka secured AIR 10, and Kanhaiya Sharma achieved AIR 40.

The city, however, witnessed a sharp drop in its success rate, with only 65 of the 993 candidates who appeared in both groups clearing the exam. This 6.55% pass percentage is nearly half of the figure recorded in the previous attempt. It falls below the national average of 8.47%. Ahmedabad recorded a 9.09% success rate in Group I, with 126 of 1,386 candidates clearing the exam. In Group II, 182 of 831 candidates passed, resulting in a pass rate of 21.9%.

Rathod credited his achievement partly to a family tradition of accountancy, with both his father and grandfather being CAs. Goenka said she studied for 10 to 12 hours a day and found the law paper particularly challenging. Kanhaiya, whose family has no CA background, attributed his success to disciplined preparation.Surat is strongest rank performer

Surat emerged as the state’s strongest performer in national rankings, with 10 students securing places in the Top 50. Arvind Patel topped in the city by securing AIR 18 with 471 marks. A resident of Chalthan in Surat district, Patel chose online coaching over classroom programmes to avoid wasting time commuting daily. His father runs a ready-made garment shop.Patel, who is in his second year of graduation from SD Jain International College in Palsana, said he studied daily to avoid backlogs.Other Surat students who secured national ranks include Henil Jain (AIR 24), Vinay Gangwal (AIR 30), Shashwat Gupta (AIR 37), Jal Shah (AIR 42), Krishna Khetan (AIR 43), Chirag Bhurani (AIR 44), Drashya Agarwal (AIR 46), Aayush Kakrania (AIR 47), and Shreyansh Kothari (AIR 50). According to ICAI chairman (Surat branch) Rahul Agrawal, 97 of 844 candidates cleared both groups. Separately, 122 of 947 candidates cleared Group I, while 127 of 570 cleared Group II.Vadodara students outperform averages

Vadodara recorded an overall success rate of 12.1%, outperforming Ahmedabad and surpassing the national average in some categories. Of the 1,231 candidates who appeared from the Vadodara branch, 149 qualified.Yash Mistry topped the city with 398 marks, closely followed by Laksh Surana (397), Krupali Rabari (380), Hande Rutul Vishalrao (360) and Alli Ammar Harun (347). Rabari secured good marks despite financial challenges at home. Her father operates a school van and is the sole earning member of the family.The city’s best performance came in Group II, where 20.45% of 308 candidates cleared the exam, significantly higher than the national average of 16.11%. However, only 5.54% of the 379 candidates who appeared in both groups cleared them. In Group I, Vadodara recorded a pass percentage of 8.82%.
