Pune: It was an inspiring act of humanity. The family of a 63-year-old woman from Pune helped save the lives of three people after they consented to donate her organs. The woman, a patient of prolonged hypertension, was admitted to a city hospital on Aug 17. She was declared brain dead four days later.“The family consented to organ donation,” said Dr Sanjay Pathare, from Noble Hospitals and Research Centre. “Her liver was given to a 55-year-old man from Pune with end-stage liver disease. A kidney was transplanted into a 49-year-old shopkeeper from Bengaluru who was suffering from chronic kidney disease.” The second kidney was set to another hospital in Pune.Dr Divij Mane, deputy manager at Noble hospital said organ donation is among the most profound humanitarian acts.“And we’re seeing more of these donations, thanks to better awareness. We deeply appreciate this family’s generosity. We also thank the medical teams whose efforts made the three life-saving transplants possible,” Dr Mane said.
