Two years after girl’s death, FSL report reveals she was raped

Surat: Two years after the death of a 13-year-old girl, a forensic report has revealed that she was sexually assaulted a few days before her death and had suffered physical injuries.Athwalines police on Sunday registered a rape and Pocso case against an unidentified person after receiving the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, which had been pending for chemical and histopathological examination.The girl died on June 8, 2024, after her health deteriorated. According to the complaint filed by her mother, she had studied up to Class 4 and later began working as a domestic help in the Chauta Bazaar area. She worked there for about seven months, after which her father told her to stop working. She then remained at home.On June 8, 2024, at around 12.45am, her health deteriorated and she soon began frothing at the mouth. She was taken by a 108 ambulance to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.After her death, the doctor kept the cause of death pending and recommended chemical and histopathological examinations. Athwalines police subsequently registered an accidental death case.The FSL submitted its report on June 10, 2026. Based on the findings, the doctor who conducted the postmortem issued the final cause-of-death certificate on July 7, 2026.The certificate stated that the girl had died due to lung pathology and recorded evidence of physical injuries on her body as well as peno-vaginal penetration. The report further indicated that the sexual assault had taken place between two and 10 days before her death.Based on these findings, police registered the rape and Pocso offence against an unidentified accused and began further investigation.
