Wagholi resident cheated of Rs40L by online fraudsters
Wagholi police said the complainant, an employee at a Kharadi-based firm, had purchased a life insurance policy from the company but had missed a few instalments.

Pune: Cybercrooks, impersonating private insurance company executives, duped a Wagholi resident (45) of Rs40 lakh between May 2023 and April this year. A complaint was filed with Pune cyber police, who, after verification, registered an FIR with Wagholi police on Sunday.Wagholi police said the complainant, an employee at a Kharadi-based firm, had purchased a life insurance policy from the company but had missed a few instalments.The suspects, Pune cyber police said, contacted the complainant and promised to release the maturity amount if he paid the missed instalments.They shared a bank account number, asking the complainant to transfer funds for the missed instalments, taxes, and various additional charges, including NOC and transaction fees.“The complainant trusted them and kept transferring money to the fraudsters, eventually transferring Rs 40 lakh to their bank accounts and through QR codes,” police said.
