Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said he would ensure his predecessor, Mamata Banerjee, was never able to hit the streets again.“Remain on Facebook. You don’t need to take to the streets. You are old. Take some rest,” Adhikari said immediately after former Bengal CM Banerjee went live on Facebook to declare that she would take “political sanyas” only after unseating BJP.“You tried to politicise Baruipur (where a minor was raped and murdered) and returned home after conceding a self-goal. You tried that in Halisahar, too (where a Trinamool worker died in cop custody), and returned after conceding a double goal. Speak less,” Adhikari told his predecessor from a press conference at state administrative headquarters Nabanna. “Even the Trinamool councillor (Jenny Keot, whose husband, Birju, died) refused to meet her but met me instead,” Adhikari added.“They sought justice from me. They accepted a cheque of Rs 10 lakh from the CM Relief Fund from my hands. I arranged a job for her and she herself sent me the job form and her bio-data. Even her (the former CM’s) own people do not seem to have faith in her,” the CM said.Adhikari returned Banerjee’s Annapurna Yojana fire, accusing her of playing appeasement politics again. “People will receive it (the Annapurna Yojana grant) gradually. Those who are eligible will get it. But, even today, she (Banerjee) brought up religion, not caste or anything else but only religion. What exactly was she hinting at? Earlier, too, she had told one community that its members existed only because she was there and they could be wiped out by the other community in a second. The implication is quite obvious. So far more than 1.4 crore women have had money transferred into their accounts out of which there are 19.2 lakh Muslim beneficiaries. Whoever was eligible received it: Muslim, Hindu, BJP, Trinamool, everyone,” Adhikari said, adding that every scheme had both deserving and undeserving applicants.Adhikari gave examples of how Banerjee’s administration practised “appeasement politics”: “It targeted Haripur village in Nandigram, where 86% of the population is Hindu. Only two Hindus and 52 Muslims were given houses under the Awas scheme. I have the entire state’s data. They punished people for being BJP supporters, for being Hindu, for being Namasudra, Rajbanshi, Adivasi.”“Mothers and sisters of Bhowanipore placed their trust in meme. There was discrimination in everything she (Banerjee) did. Whatever she did was based on religion. I don’t. I will expose what you did in Murshidabad and across the state, piece by piece. I have already asked for reports,” Adhikari said, adding: “She (Banerjee) did not give DA to employees, did not clear arrears, did not pay pensions and stalled recruitment. We had to pay Rs 3,000 crore directly to employees because of a Supreme Court order. You had sanctioned Rs 60,000 for every house under Banglar Bari and I had to arrange for Rs 6,000 crore. Did you leave money for these schemes?”
