Gandhinagar: The convergence of space technology, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, semiconductors and high-performance computing will play a decisive role in shaping the global economy and a nation’s geopolitical standing, Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said in Ahmedabad on Sunday.Addressing a National Space Day event, Shekhawat said private participation in the space sector should not be viewed as a dilution of the role of institutions such as the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), but as an expansion of opportunities within the sector.Describing the present era as one driven by space technology, AI, quantum technologies, robotics, humanoids, advanced materials, semiconductors and high-performance computing, he said these fields are set to transform lives in the years ahead.Shekhawat highlighted emerging challenges facing the sector, including space debris, cybersecurity, data security, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. Officials at the event said that around 440 startups are currently operating in India’s space sector, reflecting the rapid expansion of the industry in recent years.
