Maharashtra judiciary staffers to protest over pay scale from Sept 16, 2026

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Judicial Employees Federation has announced a phased statewide agitation from Sept 16, demanding implementation of the principle of “equal pay for equal work” for secondary court employees. The federation alleged that a proposal seeking salary parity between employees of subordinate courts and those of high court has been pending with the state govt since Jan 31, 2025. Despite repeated representations, no decision has been taken on the issue, prompting judicial employees to intensify their protest.According to the federation, subordinate court employees perform their duties under challenging conditions and form the backbone of the judicial system. However, disparities in pay scales continue to exist despite the nature of work being comparable, leading to growing resentment among employees across the state. To draw govt’s attention to their demands, the federation has planned a phased agitation beginning Sept 16. The protest programme will escalate in stages if govt fails to take a positive decision on the long-pending proposal.
