Ahmedabad: All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has extended the deadline for admissions to technical courses by one month, providing relief to students and colleges with vacant seats. Following the extension, the diploma engineering admission committee is preparing to conduct additional rounds to fill 3,462 vacant seats in govt colleges across Gujarat.According to admission committee sources, the proposal seeking permission to begin the fresh admission process has been forwarded to the concerned department. The official schedule is expected to be announced within the next two days after receiving approval.The committee is likely to conduct two additional rounds. The first will be held online, while a final offline round may be organised if seats remain vacant after the online process. Traditionally, vacant seats in govt diploma engineering colleges are filled through an offline round. However, the extension of AICTE admission deadline until Sep 14 has prompted the committee to plan an additional online round before the offline process.The admission process for Diploma and Degree Engineering courses in Gujarat had already been completed. However, the earlier admission deadline of August 14 expired before the committee could initiate the proposed offline round, leaving thousands of seats vacant.Apart from govt colleges, around 27,323 seats remain vacant in private diploma engineering colleges. These institutions have now been given time until Sep 14 to fill the available seats.Officials said the unusually high number of vacant seats in govt colleges is primarily due to the limited time available to complete the admission process this year. Once govt approval is received, the committee will publish the detailed schedule and begin the fresh admission rounds.
