Gandhinagar: Intensifying its drive against food adulteration, the state food and drug control administration (FDCA) seized suspected adulterated ghee and edible oils worth over Rs 35 lakh during raids in Surat and Deesa.The largest haul was made at a factory in Kamrej taluka of Surat, where officials alleged that adulterated ghee was being manufactured and packed as a genuine product. The raid was conducted at Keval Food Products in the Hindva Dream Industrial Estate at Dhoran Pardi.Officials said the factory operator did not possess a valid licence and was allegedly manufacturing and packing adulterated ghee on the premises. During the operation, the enforcement team seized 5,157 litres of ghee packed under various variants of the “Shree Anmol Ratan Cow Ghee” brand, valued at Rs 26 lakh.The team also recovered 1,485kg of palmolein oil worth Rs 3.6 lakh and 285kg of soybean oil, which were allegedly intended for use in adulteration. Samples of all seized products were collected and sent for laboratory testing.In a separate action, the Palanpur circle team raided two firms in Deesa and seized 987 litres of suspected ghee worth around Rs 6 lakh. Samples from the stock were also collected for analysis.Officials said legal samples from all seizures have been sent for examination under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Further action will be initiated against those found guilty after the laboratory results and investigation are completed.
