Panaji: State govt on Thursday introduced the Mukhya Mantri Janjatiya Mhaje Ghar Yojana, a financial assistance to buy or regularise dwelling or land for the people from the scheduled tribe (ST) community.Director of tribal welfare Nilesh Dhaigodkar said the objective of the scheme is to enable the eligible person from the ST community to buy or regularise the house with land at the price determined by the competent authority.Govt will provide 100% financial assistance in form of reimbursement to buy or regularise a house with land of pre-1972 with maximum limit of Rs 1 lakh or 50% reimbursement up to Rs 1 Lakh to buy or regularise a house with land of post-1972.“To be eligible for the scheme, a person must belong to the ST community in Goa, the family income from all sources should not exceed Rs 5 lakh per annum and must have availed the benefit of the Mhaje Ghar scheme,” Dhaigodkar said.Director of tribal welfare shall sanction the amount of benefit under the scheme. Upon sanction of the benefit under the scheme, the amount shall be reimbursed to the applicant through direct benefit transfer.A monitoring committee with secretary (tribal welfare) as chairperson and tribal welfare director and under secretary (tribal welfare) as members, will look into the issues of eligibility, operation or a new situation which is not envisaged at the time of formulation of the scheme, govt said.Every year, 5% of the budget allocated shall be utilised towards the awareness and promotion of the scheme, Dhaigodkar said.
