Panaji: A fishing canoe capsized in Chapora river on Wednesday. Life guards posted at Morjim beach rescued three fishermen and brought them back to the shore.The incident occurred just before noon, when the three fishermen ignored weather warnings and cast out to fish in the river. Local residents saw the fishermen in distress and alerted the Drishti Marine lifesavers about the incident. A jet ski was immediately deployed to the location. Drishti Marine lifesaver captain Sakaram, along with another lifesaver, rescued two fishermen from the water, while a third fisherman was safely assisted onto an accompanying canoe.All three fishermen were brought to safety and were reported to be in good condition.Goa is experiencing the peak of the southwest monsoon, with strong winds, rough seas and turbulent waters making the coastline unsafe for swimming and sailing. Swimming remains prohibited along Goa’s beaches during this period, while a seasonal fishing ban is also in force.To ensure public safety, Drishti Marine has deployed more than 450 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across the state’s major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies to respond swiftly to emergencies and assist visitors. The govt-appointed agency has reiterated its warning to locals, fishermen and tourists not to venture into the rough waters.
