Ahmedabad: Several areas of the city witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall between midnight and 4am on Sunday, with Ahmedabad recording 39mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 6am. While a number of localities reported temporary waterlogging, some underpasses in the western parts of the city were closed to vehicular traffic as a precautionary measure.According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) data, Ognaj received 105mm of rainfall till 6am, followed by Gota with 72mm, Ranip with 66mm, Sarkhej with 60.5mm, and Memnagar with 58.5mm. Underpasses at Akhbarnagar, Mithakhali, Makarba and Kali Gam remained closed for periods ranging from one to five hours during the night. Officials said four complaints related to waterlogging and other monsoon issues were received.AMC officials said the newly laid stormwater drainage line in the Bodakdev area and the upgrading of the existing drainage network helped clear roads within an hour after the rain stopped early on Sunday morning. They added that a sunken road and an associated water pipeline had also been repaired to address a low-lying stretch that frequently faces water accumulation during heavy rain.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky on Monday with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The maximum temperature remained at a normal 35.4 degrees celsius, while the minimum temperature of 23.6 degrees celsius was 2.9 degrees below normal. Relative humidity stood at 83% at 8.30am and 60% at 5.30pm, IMD data showed.The IMD’s forecast for Gujarat indicated that rainfall intensity may ease by the weekend, with the likelihood of heavy rain decreasing considerably. The southwest monsoon is also expected to advance further eastward from Jamnagar into other parts of the state, according to the forecast.
