SFI stir forces JU to consider relocating rooms for BJP-RSS linked unions

Kolkata: A day after allotting union room offices to two workers’ organisations at Subarna Jayanti Bhavan, JU authorities are reconsidering the decision in the face of agitation by SFI students on Friday. The students demanded the decision be revoked since allotting rooms to organisations “directly affiliated to political force” at academic buildings or spaces is not suitable.VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee said, “We had allotted rooms to the two workers’ organisations but the students raised concerns because it is an academic building. We are trying to find in non-academic buildings to relocate them. So, for the time being, they can use the rooms allotted to them.”Around 70 SFI students staged a sit-in for five hours outside the VC’s office on Friday. “The VC has agreed to our demand to reallocate the offices,” said Abhinaba Basu, SFI, JU local committee secretary.WBUKP secretary Palas Maji said, “We will resolve this matter peacefully.”Biswajit Deb, PVKS, JU unit secretary, said, “It is a political move so that we don’t get a room.”
